Peter J. Kim is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Sony Corporation of America (SCA), the New York-based U.S. headquarters of Sony Group Corporation, based in Tokyo, Japan. 

Peter manages the SCA Legal Department providing legal support to SCA and various corporate and business units while working with his counterparts in the legal functions of Sony’s global operating companies. He is also responsible for corporate governance matters and acts as corporate secretary for SCA and its subsidiaries. In addition, he oversees SCA Compliance, Compliance Monitoring, Intellectual Property and External Affairs. 

Prior to his appointment as SCA General Counsel, Peter served in a variety of legal positions within SCA, where he was actively involved in various significant U.S.-based strategic transactions, including multiple investments in Epic Games, the buyout of the Estate of Michael Jackson’s 50% interest in Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the buyout of the majority partners’ 60% interest in EMI Music Publishing, and movie studio content support agreements leading to Blu-ray’s adoption as the default HD video format. 

Peter began his professional career as a financial analyst in capital markets with Merrill Lynch and his legal career as an associate with several international law firms working both in the U.S. and internationally, before leaving his last firm, Dewey Ballantine in New York, to go inhouse at IBM in 2003. He joined Sony in 2005. 

Peter also served on the Board of Directors of EMI Music Publishing prior to its buyout by Sony in 2018 and currently serves on the Board of Music Choice, a multi-platform video and music network that delivers music programming to millions of consumers nationwide through their televisions, online and mobile devices. 

He received his J.D. from Cornell Law School and B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University.
